Behind the scenes of Deadpool 2

When it comes down to it, Marvel will always win in a battle with the DC Universe. Sure, they have Batman and Wonder Woman – but would you rather a flash sports car or have Thor’s hammer? We know which one we would choose. Thanks to Hollywood’s interest in the comic book series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has since become a staple of society, and we now spend more money on going to the movies than we do on groceries each month. We’re totally okay with it. Although we’ve fallen head over heels in love with the likes of the Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers, for us nothing comes close to the dark humor and the gore of Deadpool. After gracing our screens in 2016, fans have since rallied to see more of their sword-wielding superhero, and we can now say that Deadpool 2 is finally here! So, what’s all the fuss about? Well, this sequel almost follows straight on from the original movie and sees Wade Wilson in complete and utter happiness.

Pretty cute, right? Unfortunately, this wouldn’t be a Marvel movie without a lot of heartache and pain, so it’s safe to say that this blissful life doesn’t last too long. In fact, things get so bad that Deadpool eventually finds himself teaming up with the X-Men! Who would have thought it?! In a battle between good and evil, the characters in this movie find themselves teetering on the edge of both in an epic storyline – which is why we just need to know more. Check out the secrets and behind the scenes drama of Deadpool 2, and we’ll leave you with this… Hi Yukio!

Cable had to bulk up

In this epic new movie, Deadpool finds himself up against the future. Quite literally. As he attempts to live out his final days in the Ice Box, he comes face to face with a brand new robot/human from the future, who calls himself Cable. However, Cable is not your average opponent. With enormous muscles and a bionic arm, it’s fair to say that he has the upper hand in this battle. In preparation for his role in Deadpool 2, Josh Brolin had to undertake some serious training in the gym. Brolin kept his fans up to date with his progress on Instagram, and informed them of his exercise routine and his daily eating habits – which included exactly 48 almonds every single day!

There is a comic book easter-egg

Nowadays, fans and critics can’t watch a single movie without ripping apart every scene looking for easter-eggs. It’s just the way we are. Thankfully, Deadpool fans were not disappointed when they watched both the first and the second movies – as Wade Wilson’s swords perfectly link back to the comic books we all know and love. If you look closely at the handles of his blades, you might notice a few names engraved on the top of them. If you look even closer, you might notice that they say “Bea” and “Arthur.” Avid readers of the comics will know that this little nugget is in reference to Wade Wilson’s totally justified obsession with the actress from the comedy, Golden Girls.

The movie had another name…

Deadpool is one of a kind, which is why there was no need for a fancy title for the sequel. Instead, the cast, the crew, and the fans were quite happy to know that Deadpool 2 would soon be coming into their lives and disrupting it – but in a good way. Yet, Ryan Reynolds and the rest of the team couldn’t help but add their humor into the production of the movie. While we were all waiting on tenterhooks for any information about the sequel, they let loose that the working title would be called ‘Love Machine.’

…And a hilarious ‘official synopsis’

One of the main reasons we love Deadpool so much is because they just don’t play by the rules and they don’t take themselves too seriously. This gets even better when the production crew doesn’t take their marketing or their advertising seriously, and they did just that when they released their hilarious ‘official synopsis.’ In this incredible synopsis, they talk of a “near-fatal bovine” attack, and call Wade Wilson a former cafeteria worker who aims to become the coolest bartender in town. It’s funnier if you read the real thing. Trust us.

There are some epic cameos

Marvel movies are known for including some epic cameos of superheroes past and present. Thankfully, Deadpool 2 is no different and features a whole host of cameos from faces you probably might recognize. There is basically the whole cast of X-Men (for all of 10 seconds), there is Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, there is Alan Tudyk as a country redneck, there is Brad Pitt as The Vanisher, and even Ryan Reynolds makes an appearance as himself rather than Deadpool – but you’ll have to wait until the end credits to work that one out.

Sadly, he wasn’t the one dancing

Canadians united in May 2018 when Celine Dion released the song and the music video for the Deadpool 2 soundtrack – and if you haven’t listened to it yet, you should probably clear your schedule, because you’ll be singing it all day. Although we were smitten with her Canadian twang and the emotional lyrics, we just couldn’t look past Deadpool’s sultry interpretive dance in the music video. While we hoped it really was Ryan Reynolds underneath the suit and dancing in the heels, it was actually a professional dancer by the name of Yanis Marshall.

David Beckham wasn’t too happy with Reynolds

Ryan Reynolds is not known for holding back while in character – or at all, really – and has recently made a name for himself for his tongue-in-cheek jokes that border on hilarious and offensive. It seems as though one famous footballer was not happy when he became the source of his jokes. In the original Deadpool movie, Wilson joked that David Beckham’s voice sounded like it had had intimate relations with a can of helium. Nevertheless, Deadpool has since decided to apologize and rocked up at his house in a video that has since gone viral.

One of our favorite characters is not in the comics

Deadpool 1 and 2 features a character who doesn’t have superpowers but is just as awesome. Yes, we’re talking about Dopinder! This hilarious taxi driver may listen to self-help tapes in the car and drive around someone who likes to send bad guys to the fishes, but he has since become a staple character within the Deadpool franchise. However, what’s interesting is that this character does not actually appear in the comics. Instead, he was created for comic relief in the movie, and we can safely say that he succeeded.

The movie lost its original director

Although the two Deadpool movies are incredibly similar in style and humor, there are little snippets of differences throughout – and that may be because Deadpool 2 lost its original director. The original Deadpool was directed by Tim Miller, and he won the hearts of fans across the world. While he was all ready to reprise his directorial role for Deadpool 2, Miller soon backed down after differences with the rest of his team. It’s said that Miller did not like the direction that the movie was going in. Ouch. The second instalment was instead directed by David Leitch, who had only directed two films previously: John Wick and Atomic Blonde.

There was a terrible loss on set

If you’ve already seen Deadpool 2, you’ll know that the whole thing is packed full of action. There are crashes, there are smashes, and there are stunts that few of us would want to be a part of. However, it seems these stunts caused the terrible loss of life on set. In August 2017, the world of Hollywood came to a standstill when it was discovered that a stunt driver by the name of Joi ‘SJ’ Harris passed away while attempting a stunt for the movie. They halted filming for two days after the event.

Stan Lee does not make a physical appearance

Stan Lee is known as the Marvel legend, and has spent the majority of his character executive producing the Marvel movies, and making physical cameos alongside his favorite superheroes. However, many fans were surprised to see that Stan Lee did not make a physical appearance in Deadpool 2. While he does appear in graffiti on the side of a building, he did not get the chance to don a cool outfit or say a few lines. Hopefully, he’ll make a reappearance in the flesh soon!

Josh Brolin and Ryan Reynolds love to troll each other

Working long hours on a movie set together can either make or break a friendship. Luckily, Ryan Reynolds and Josh Brolin are so tight that nothing could tear them apart – not even the fact that the pair just love to troll each other on social media. On Josh Brolin’s 40th birthday, Ryan just couldn’t stop himself from bringing up his age and wishing him a happy-ish birthday. So, he posted a photograph of himself painting Josh in a Titanic-style portrait. The only problem? Josh is a lot younger in the painting…  Deadpool is painting him as Josh Brolin’s most famous role, Brand, from classic action adventure movie The Goonies.

The trailer takes a dig at DC

As we’ve already mentioned, the Marvel/DC debate has been going on for yonks – and because Marvel knows that they are much more popular than their DC counterparts, they just can’t help but to take a few digs every now and then. That’s exactly what happened in the trailer for Deadpool 2. While Deadpool changes outfits to make the trailer more dramatic and comedic, you might have realized that the Superman theme tune is also playing in the background. Do you want some cold water for that burn, DC?

The trailer also hints to one of the awesome cameos

You already know that Wolverine makes an appearance in Deadpool 2, and that should be enough information to ensure that you’re set for a lifetime of happiness. However, it seems as though the producers of the movie just couldn’t stop themselves from adding a little hint of his appearance in the trailer. As Wade Wilson runs past a movie theater, there are two little nuggets that point us in the direction of Wolverine. The theater tells us that they are playing ‘Logan’ that night, and there’s even a poster on the wall. Smart!

We might have been given a costume teaser

Deadpool 2 is full of fire. Quite literally. With fire comes ash, and with ash comes dirty clothes. While this is a given, it seems as though the inclusion of this ash on Deadpool’s suit may have given us a teaser of an upcoming costume. Yes, fans of the comics will know that Deadpool soon joins X-Force for a full story of their own, and within these pages, he wears a suit that is black and grey. Towards the end of the movie, Deadpool’s dirty suit is also black and grey…

One Twitter account has had us all laughing

As Deadpool aims to save the world from a villainous mutant, he decides to enlist the help of a few other mutants – you know, just for backup. Although most of them have cool powers, Wade also teams up with a man named Peter, who is just your average guy with a mustache. During the course of production, a new Twitter account surfaced and gave us an insight into the hilarious life of the normal ‘Peter W.’ These tweets really do need to be seen to be believed.

Ryan Reynolds wasn’t all that happy on set

We don’t think we have ever seen Ryan Reynolds without a smile on his face. In fact, we’re gonna go ahead and say he is the happiest guy in Hollywood. However, it seems as though this smile slipped a little during the filming of Deadpool 2. In a photo that he posted to his social media accounts, Ryan took fans down an extremely long corridor that was used for one of the action scenes. Unfortunately, this corridor was super creepy, and Ryan wasn’t exactly enjoying his time down there.

We learned just how Deadpool likes to chill out

Deadpool 2 has given us a much bigger insight into the life of Wade Wilson. We’ve learned more about his past, his friends, and even the fact that he loves kids! Yet, one of the biggest takeaways we received from Deadpool 2 is that our favorite superhero loves to just chill out in his home and get comfortable. How does he do that? Well, he wears Crocs and socks, of course! In fact, Ryan Reynolds couldn’t help but put this slightly disturbing photo on his social media page.

Josh Brolin had early call times

With scars all over his face, a bionic arm, and a robotic eye, it’s fair to say that Cable is your average superhero. Of course, Josh Brolin looks a little different in real life, which meant that he had an early start whenever he was on set. To get into the character of Cable, Josh would have to sit in the makeup chair for hours, wear prosthetics, and keep himself busy while the experts did their thing. Perhaps he could have read the comics while he was waiting…

Deadpool 2 made wishes come true

Over the course of his career, Ryan Reynolds has made no secret of the fact that he loves to give back to the community. With fame and fortune to his name, he knows that there are others out there who aren’t as lucky – and he wants to change that. While on the set of Deadpool 2, Ryan Reynolds made the dreams of many kids come true after they were allowed a chance to meet the stars of the movie and even watch the filming take place. The children were from the amazing Make A Wish Foundation.
