Mother bear leaves her cubs to drown, but thankfully they get rescued

It is said that heroism comes in many forms, and sometimes, it comes in the form of a group of fishermen. That was the case one cold, brisk day on a lake in Northwestern Russia, when these aforementioned fishermen were faced with scenario they never expected. All they ever wanted to do was to catch a bunch of fish, bring them home, and maybe enjoy a nice beer when it was all done. They never expected to encounter a family of bears, made up of a mother and her cubs, swimming in the lake. And when we say bears swimming in a lake, we mean that it only appeared that way at first. Soon enough, they realized that the bear cubs they were looking at were drowning, and desperately trying to stay afloat.

That’s right friends… When these simple fishermen set out to catch a nice batch of fish, they very soon found themselves in a situation where they needed to make a serious choice, and quick. When they saw two bear cubs drowning in the cold lake, they realized that they could potentially save their lives – but would they be successful? And if they did succeed, what would happen after that? These were all very real questions – and that’s not all. There was another big player in this story that we still have not yet mentioned. A character that may have been the catalyst for all of the fear and trials that the bear cubs went through. We are talking, of course, about the bear cubs’ mother.

Make no mistake – this may be a tale of heroism, as we promised you earlier, but it is also a tale of heartbreak and deception. A story that can make you question everything you thought you knew about motherly love. Because we haven’t yet talked about how the bear cubs started drowning in the first place. It truly is sad to hear how the events unfolded, because it makes us wonder how something like that could have ever happened. It all started when a mother bear and her two cubs tried to get across a freezing cold lake. They opted to swim, even though the cubs weren’t the most experienced swimmers. Still, they were optimistic that they could make their humble way across.

Very soon, both the mother bear and her cubs realized something was wrong. Not only were the cubs having trouble keeping up with their mother, but as a result, they were now clinging on to their mother in order to stay afloat. Hmmm, perhaps they should have thought twice about this whole swimming across business? But then again, they are bears, and they just went with their instincts. Speaking of instincts… once the mother bear realized that her babies couldn’t swim, what do you think she did? Or better yet, what do you think she should have done? Alas, we think that there’s a good chance you won’t agree with mama bear’s decision.
