Weddings are a beautiful day in a couple’s life. Whether the marriage lasted or not, most couples looked completely blissed out when they exchanged vows and danced the night away with their loved ones. Here we have a list of celebrities who tied the knot in the 1970s and 1980s, so we have an added vintage feel to the wedding day, and to the incredible photos that were captured on that day. Celebrity weddings have almost always been over the top occasions, covered by the press, even back then; so we managed to put together a list of wedding photos from some of the most glamorous weddings of those decades, big hair and all!
Mick Jagger and Bianca Perez-Mora Macias | 1971
Mick Jagger is the lead singer and hip swinger of the legendary band, the Rolling Stones. In 1971, closer to the beginning of his career, he married Bianca Perez-Mora Macias, also known as Bianca Jagger. The couple was married until 1978, when Bianca filed for divorce, citing adultery as the reason for the end of their marriage. Considering he was a full fledged rock star, the reason for the breakup didn’t surprise us one little bit. Bianca was the only woman Mick ever married, although he has been in long standing relationships a few times in his life.
Faye Dunaway and Peter Wolf | 1974
Faye Dunaway was a very well known actress, while Peter was the lead singer of the rock band, The J. Giels Band. The good looking couple married in 1974, and remained husband and wife for five years, until their divorce in 1979. The reason for their ultimate separation was due to work obligations. Her Hollywood star was rising, while his was waning, and the difference between acting and music was very large back then; meaning that Faye and her first husband didn’t really stand a chance.
Julio Iglesias and Isabel Preysler | 1971
Spanish singer and songwriter, Julio Iglesias, is a name synonymous with soulful, hip moving tunes. The patriarch of the successful Iglesias family, married Isabel Preysler in 1971. Isabel was a journalist and tv host at the time and is a part of an aristocratic Filipino family branch within the Spanish dynasty; talk about good genes! Julio and Isabel were married from 1971 to 1979, during which time they welcomed three children – Chabeli, Julio Jr., and Enrique (yes, that Enrique Iglesias).
Aretha Franklin and Glynn Turman | 1978
From 1978 to 1984, Aretha was married to actor, Glynn Turman. The two were married in Aretha’s father’s church, mcuh to the approval of her parents, who did not approve or like her first husband. Aretha became the stepmother of Turman’s three children from his previous relationship. When Turman decided to move back to Michigan from California in 1982, the couple separated and eventually divorced in 1984. Aretha went on to have a long relationship after Turman, but never got married again.
Alana Hamilton and Rod Stewart | 1979
Rod Stewart is one of the most famous names in rock and roll. His albums hit number one more times that we care to admit, and his name is known across generations and continents. Rod is famous for his romantic ventures, especially the fact that he has eight children from five different women. However, we are focusing on his marriage to Alana Hamilton, as that was his first marriage (out of three). Alana and Rod were married from 1979 to 1984 and had two children together, Kimberly and Sean.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles | 1981
Princess Diana and Prince Charles were a romantic tale that ended on a sour and then tragic note. The royals married in 1981 in a massive wedding for the whole world to see, be it out in the streets of London or on television. The couple had two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. In 1996 the two divorced, and opened the gates to their personal lives and dramas. Charles cheated on Diana throughout most of their marriage, and Diana was involved in several relationships thereafter. Sadly, Diana was killed in a car accident in 1997.
Renata Blauel and Elton John | 1984
Little known fact: Singer and composer, Elton John was married to a women once. In 1984, Elton married Renate Blauel, a German recording engineer. The public didn’t really buy his marriage to Renate, as Elton himself said in an interview in 1976 that he was a bisexual man. Either way, the two were together until 1988, when the couple decided to divorce. They had no children together and Elton came out officially in 1988 when he told the press he was a gay man.
Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson | 1988
Actor, Tom Hanks, known for his role in Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, The Terminal, Charlie Wilson’s War, and The Da Vinci Code, has been happily married to actress Rita Wilson since 1988. The two met when they worked together on the film, Volunteers, and married later that same year. The couple has two children together, sons, Chet and Truman. Tom has two older children from his first marriage. Tom and Rita are often seen at various charitable events, especially when it comes to anything to do with space exploration.
Tatum O’Neal and John McEnroe | 1986
Actress, Tatum O’Neal, is famous for being the youngest person to win an Academy Award, when she was just 10 years old. She is also the daughter of actor, Ryan O’Neal, a famous actor in his own right. In 1986, Tatum married tennis player, John McEnroe, after the two met and started dating in 1984. Tatum and John had three children together – Kevin, Sean, and Emily. The couple divorced in 1994, catapulting O’Neal to use illegal substances that had her lose custody of her children; a sad turn of events.

Ringo Starr, real name, Richard Starkey, is an English musician known for his drumming days with the Beatles. Ringo met Barbara Bach on the 1980 set of the film, Caveman. The couple married in 1981. Ringo has three children from his first marriage to Maureen Cox, Zak, Jason and Lee. Ringo and Barbara are still married and split their time between three homes, England, Los Angeles, and Monte Carlo. Starr and Bach have seven grandchildren, and one great grandchild from Ringo’s children with Cox.

The case of two famous English actors of join forces. Emma met actor, Kenneth Branagh in 1987 when they were working together on the television series, Fortunes of War. The two married in 1989, working together on a few films. The press was all over their relationship from the start, as the stars were practically British royalty in their notoriety. The couple divorced in 1995 due to the fact that it was revealed that Kenneth fell in love with yet another actress, Helena Bonham Carter.

From 1985 to 1989, Madonna was married to actor, Sean Penn. Both of their careers, hers in music and his in acting, were skyrocketing at the time, making them a true power couple in Hollywood. The two starred in the film, Shanghai Surprise, together but the the film was considered to be one of the worst of the decade. In 1987, Madonna filed for divorce but retracted the papers thereafter. In 1989, she filed again and stuck with it. The two were divorced that year and went on to be in other longstanding marriages.

Former bodybuilder, actor and past governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, married journalist, Maria Shriver (who is the niece of President John F. Kennedy), in 1986. Arnold and Maria have four children together – Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christoper. The couple is in the process of divorcing now, after Maria separated from Arnold in 2011 when she found out that Arnold fathered a child, a son named Joseph, with their former housekeeper over ten years earlier.
Diana Ross and Arne Næss, Jr. | 1986
Singer, songwriter and actress, Diana Ross is one of the biggest names in music. Diana was married twice in her life, and her second marriage to Arne is the one we are focusing on here. Sylvester married model and actress, Brigitte Nielsen in 1985. The two were a stunning couple together but were not meant to be; they divorced just two years later in 1987. They did not have any children together, but their relationship was very highly publicized and talked about. Apparently it was a very tumultuous relationship that had their names and faces in the tabloids on a weekly basis. Nielsen was Stallone’s second wife, out of three.

Burt Reynold and Loni Anderson were one of the greatest looking couples for the time they were together. The couple was married from 1988 until 1993, and adopted a child, son, Quinton, together. Loni was Burt’s second and last wife, while after they divorced, Loni went on to remarry in 2008. Both actors are now laying much lower as they are getting up there in terms of their age, but are still well known individuals in the fame game.

She was married to Richard Burton, a Welsh actor, from 1975 to 1976 (extra fact: this was their second marriage, they were married before between 1964 and 1974). The couple led a very luxurious lifestyle while they were together, and shared two children together whom they adopted. Elizabeth had said about her then-husband, “after Richard, the men in my life were just there to hold the coat, to open the door. All the men after Richard were really just company.”

Since their divorce, Cher continues to be well known in the music world, while Allman has all but vanished.

Diandra was awarded an astounding $45 million in the divorce settlement. Michael has two more children from his second wife, Catherine.

The couple had one child together, but the marriage was not a long lasting or happy one. They divorced after 13 years, in 1982, due to the amount of extra marital affairs that Dotti was accustomed to getting himself involved in. Hepburn waited until her son was old enough to handle the split and then proceeded with the divorce.

Actor and producer, Jeff Bridges was and still is one of the greatest faces in show business. He has won an Academy Award and nominated six additional times! Jeff married Susan Geston in 1977 after meeting her on the set of the film Rancho Deluxe, where Susan was working as a maid. The couple has three children together, all daughters – Isabelle, Jessica, and Hayley. Jeff and Susan are still happily married (and we are over the moon about it!).

Hillary and Bill married in 1975 in Arkansas, where they were living at the time. They have one daughter, Chelsea. As we all know, Bill went on to be President of the United States, shame Hillary with a very public outing of a sexual encounter, and then go right back to being on her side when she was running for President of the United States in the 2016 election. The couple is still married.

When Donny was 20 years old, in 1978, he married Debbie Glenn. The couple has five children together, sons, Donald, Jeremy, Brandon, Christopher, and Joshua. The couple share the same Mormon faith, which they attribute to their longstanding marriage. Donny and Debbie are still married today and are vocal about their opinions as to the country’s legal stances on same-sex marriage.
