There just never seems to be enough hours in a day. Whether it is trying to get all of the chores we need to do around the house finished or trying to see all of our friends and family to even just relaxing, it never seems like we have enough time to do anything.
Add to that the compounded stresses of work and never ending workloads, and it can seem as if there is nothing we can do to get our lives back.

So is it that all of these other high powered business people, politicians, and athletes seem to have the time to do anything they want all the time? How do they have time to work out, see their kids, and also do 12 hours of work a day. Do they simply sleep less than the rest of us?
Well, that certainly may be a part of it, but the main reason these people seem like secret superhumans is because they are all able to practice effective time management. Here are a few tips to help you in your quest to play like the best.

Wake up with goals in mind

When you wake up in the morning, you should more or less know what it is that you want to accomplish in nearly every aspect of your day. Are you trying to eat healthier? Do you have a presentation at work? Is it your turn to pick up your kids? Do you need to go grocery shopping or see a friend later?

By having some sort of a mental idea of what you are doing (at this point you do not even need to write it down). This way, you will know what you need to do, and you will be aware of it, thus already putting you in the mindset from the very beginning of the day that you will be productive and fit everything in.

Have a fluid calendar

One of the best ways to time manage is to put as much as you can into an hourly calendar. Most phones have a calendar feature of some sort already, so there is no need to download a special app. Put things in your calendar as they come up, but make sure that as few things in it are locked down as possible.
For example, a work meeting will be nearly impossible to re-schedule for later in the day, but if you can delay meeting your friend for coffee for a half hour or so to get some little thing done, you will feel a lot more relaxed about where your day is headed, as well as how productive your day was.

Make sure you get the most important things

When trying to time manage, one of the most important things is that you manage your time in order to get the most important things done. Otherwise they will just sit like a burden on your back until you go out and do them. Important things (outside of work) may include getting groceries, seeing a good friend, or doing banking.
Once you get all of the important things done, you will feel a lot better about how you moved around your day, and you will just feel better overall.

Stop procrastinating

So you have your schedule made, you’ve determined which things are the most important to get done, you are ready to start your day, and then it happens. You see the couch. You sit down. You open your phone to your favorite social media site. Congratulations, you have just wasted hours of precious time.

Perhaps the most important piece of advice which can be given when dealing with time management is acknowledging that procrastination is the main thing that kills productivity. Just say no… to procrastination.
