After a 23-hour workday, this famous actress and mom turned to her followers for advice

Life as a new mother can sometimes be tough, especially when it’s just you and the baby. All new mothers go through a bonding experience with their children, first when carrying them in the womb and then after they’re born. For some it can be easy to learn the tricks of motherhood, while others take a little while to get into the groove.

No one ever said it would be easy raising a child, and no matter how much family you have around you it can be hard. Before your child learns to speak you have to learn what it’s trying to tell you through crying and that can take a while to master. Eventually, most mothers, fathers, and families can provide their new baby with exactly what it needs to flourish.

Sleep deprivation is pretty common for all new parents, especially those who continue to work after their kid has been born. This woman had been up for 23 hours straight working and took to Instagram for some helpful advice.

America Ferrera

Actress America Ferrera had just worked an incredibly long day and was just one hour shy of a 24-hour day. That’s pretty tough for anyone to try and handle but on top of the busy workload, Ferrera is a new mom after giving birth to her child in 2018.

America Ferrera

After struggling with the tiredness but knowing her child needed some attention, she took to Instagram to get some advice from her followers. With her brain struggling after a long day she was hoping her social media followers could give her answers to the questions she had.

What she wanted to know

It had been a very long day for Ferrera and after 23 hours of work, the last thing she needed was her baby to have a bad night’s sleep. Unfortunately for her, the kid didn’t sleep well that night, so Ferrera woke up, very tired and having to face a new day.

What she wanted to know

She wanted to know if any of her followers could give her some advice to “rally” herself and get her day going. Knowing she had only a few hours sleep only made things worse for Ferrera who must have climbed into bed the night before hoping for deep sleep. The cappuccino she had “wasn’t cutting it” so she hoped that her followers had something else she could try.

Send help!

Ferrera wanted some help from her followers and needed some suggestions to kick start her day. Juggling work and family took its toll on Ferrera on this day and any home remedies to get her going were welcome.

Most of the time we rely on a strong cup of coffee to get us in the right frame of mind, but Ferrera was so tired that just wasn’t happening. One of the first suggestions someone had for Ferrera was to gulp down some ice cold water. That will be a shock to her system and wake the new mother up enough to keep her alert and focused on what she had to get done that day.

What had Ferrera so tired?

The actress has been working pretty solidly on the comedy series Superstore which takes place in a big box superstore. So not only was she working a long shift on set, but the set would have felt even more like work because Ferrera portrays an employee at the store.

What had Ferrera so tired?

She has been starring in Superstore since 2015 and is one of several main cast to make it through to the fourth season. Then, as if Ferrera didn’t have enough on her plate as a star of the show, she is also credited as a producer so doesn’t get to slack off. Even when the cameras are off Ferrera is having to keep working on her show.

Moms weighing in

There were plenty of mothers willing to give Ferrera some tips that helped them get through tough situations. Babies alone are hard work, and we’re guessing Ferrera works hard on set, so she’s got every right to be tired.

Moms weighing in

One of her followers told her to do nothing else that day that was going to make her more tired. Instead, they told her to grab a shower or go for a swim, then it was all about seizing the day. Ferrera’s follower told her to put her “hair in a bun, and then conquer this day.” Another told her a fried egg sandwich and iced latte managed to get her through working five hours straight.

Famous advice

It wasn’t just everyday people weighing in to help Ferrera out, and some of her famous friends reached out to help her too. Jennifer Garner had some sound advice that would have been a comfort to Ferrera.

Famous advice

The actress told Ferrera that a day like today called for a Snickers. We can only imagine that advice went straight to the top of the list and Ferrera ran out to the store immediately. Garner also told her friend that babies can sense when moms need sleep but wished Ferrera good luck.

Thanks everyone

The advice came pouring in for Ferrera, so much so that she added a follow-up to her original post. She thanked everyone for their kind help and asked: “How have I survived for so long without this knowledge?”

Thanks everyone

Among the suggestions, other people put forward that Ferrera should get her hands on some apples and buns to keep the sleep at bay for a while. Ferrera admitted that the suggestions coming in had inspired her to stop procrastinating on Instagram and get to work.

Take a nap

Perhaps the best piece of advice Ferrera received from any of her followers was to get some more sleep. One fan suggested she just bite the bullet and go take a nap. If her level of tiredness was as bad as she was claiming it to be, then there’s not much chance she was functioning properly.

Take a nap

Working while tired is when most people make mistakes and it’s something that could have happened to Ferrera. Napping for ten minutes might have made her more productive for the rest of the day.

Get dancing

Some of Ferrera’s followers suggested that if sleep wasn’t going to happen, then she should have an impromptu dancing session. They advised that it would get her blood pumping and that in turn would release some endorphins.

Get dancing

Those endorphins would make her feel much better and give her the energy to continue with the rest of her day. Exercise has proven to be great for your mind as well as your body, and a brief session of dancing would have given Ferrera the energy she so desperately wanted.

Life as a new mom

There is a reason why there are so many baby help books around. Raising a kid can be tough, and new parents need as much advice as possible to help their children grow up strong and healthy. Some believe it’s pretty hard to mess up raising a child because instinctively many parents already know what to do.

Life as a new mom

It’s a little bit about trial and error, but you’re probably already going to have a good idea what is and isn’t safe. Ferrera just wanted some advice on battling the tiredness.

Don’t forget your partner

One piece of advice that Janeen Hayward, a parenting guru from Chicago, believes that is important is to make time for your partner.

Don’t forget your partner

Raising a kid is going to go better if you and your partner work as a team so make sure you two are able to spend some quality time together. You guys will need to discuss what is and isn’t working and Hayward believes setting a weekly date to sit down and talk makes all the difference.

Asking for help

There is no shame in asking for help, and in Ferrera’s case, it proved to be super useful. Life is a learning experience, and there’s no limit to how much you can learn, so asking for someone more experienced to help is smart.

Asking for help

It’s important also to realize that doing everything yourself isn’t the best approach either. Sometimes getting a relative to swing by and help with your laundry or cleaning can make the difference between a good day and a bad one. Help is not a sign of weakness.

Do your best

It might be hard to admit because some people can take to parenting easier than others, but your best is good enough. If you do your best for your children, then there is nothing more you could possibly do for them.

Do your best

It’s all too easy to be hard on yourself by thinking you aren’t doing a good enough job, especially compared to others, but everyone has struggles. The main thing is making sure you trust your gut and do what works for you and your family, not copy someone else’s parenting.

A sleeping aid

One trick that Hayward believes works well is for new parents to invest in a white noise machine. The parenting expert understands that when in the womb kids are used to listening to white noise so introducing one to your home can be important.

A sleeping aid

This will help your infant child to get to sleep quicker and better, meaning you have more time to sleep yourself. The great thing about the white noise machine is that it’ll help you sleep too!

Enjoy life before baby

This piece of advice is for someone expecting a baby in the year future. Another parenting expert, Lindsay Pinchuk, recommends spending as much time enjoying yourself before your baby arrive as you might struggle to find ‘me-time’ afterward.

Enjoy life before baby

She said the last three films she got to watch were “Trolls,” “Sing,” and “Moana.” All great films but very much dictated to her by her children. Go out and do the things you love to do before the baby comes along and those things you love doing are less likely to happen.

Who are you?

Many parents seem to think they should keep who they are a mystery to their children. Parenting author John Badalament suggests that one of the most important things we can do as parents is to let our children know and understand who their parents are.

Who are you?

He suggests telling your kids stories about yourself so that they know more about you. They’re going to be spending a lot of their life with you, so it’s essential for them to feel as close to you as possible.

Dial things back

Pediatrician Scott Goldstein believes some people can get lost in preparing for their baby to come into the world. People can go over the top in buying books, clothes, apps, and products all designed at making the baby’s life easier.

Dial things back

Goldstein says it’s easy to get lost among this and all a baby needs when it’s born is a place to sleep, some food to eat, and clothes to wear. He does add that unless you fancy redecorating your home, you’re going to need to stock up on diapers.

A busy woman

America Ferrera has been a busy woman over the past few years. Not only has she been staring in movies and TV shows, but she has also been on the campaign trail.

A busy woman

Ferrera is passionate about politics and has been encouraging young people to vote by getting involved with the Hillblazers campaign. The actress was also the opening speaker at the Women’s March on Washington in 2017, and she spoke once more at the Families Belong Together protest in 2018.

Where it all began

Many TV fans know America Ferrera from her time in the hit comedy series Ugly Betty which was set in the fashion world. It told us the story of Betty, who was trying to make it in the world of vanity while not having that same mindset.

Where it all began

She found challenges but always managed to overcome them in her own way. A Golden Globe followed, and that was what led Ferrera to international stardom, and since then she has gone on to have a pretty impressive acting career.

How to Train Your Dragon

After Ugly Betty was over Ferrera found herself wanted by a ton of movie and film studios. In 2010 she landed the role of Astrid in the animated adventure How to Train Your Dragon, and has since gone on to appear in the sequels too.

How to Train Your Dragon

Ferrera plays the love interest of the main character and has developed into one of the franchise’s favorite characters. Astrid proves to be just as good at training dragons as Hiccup, and their relationship develops as the franchise continues.

Sticking with dragons

Ferrera has found success in long-running series, but perhaps the most success she’s having is coming through the How to Train Your Dragons universe. Along with multiple feature-film sequels, there are also many spinoffs and minor productions that Ferrera is involved with in the fantasy franchise.

Sticking with dragons

In 2011 Ferrera won an Alliance of Women Film Journalists award for her role in How to Train Your Dragon. She has won multiple awards during her acting career, and if history repeats itself, she’ll win many more.

Keeping busy

It looks as though Ferrera’s schedule isn’t slowing down any time soon. She recently appeared in a Ted Talks seminar and is also still very busy campaigning for other people. Ferrera is raising awareness for people trying to flee Central America in hope for asylum while also encouraging people to vote.

Keeping busy

All of this while trying to raise a young family and star in a TV show. It’s no wonder that Ferrera was so grateful with the suggestions from her Instagram followers to give her a little bit more energy.

First baby

In May 2018, America Ferrera and her husband Ryan Piers Williams welcomed baby Sebastian, also known as Baz, into their lives. Ferrera was thrilled to be a mother, and announced the birth of her son in a heartfelt Instagram post.

First baby

The picture of little Baz’s feet was accompanied by a sweet caption welcoming the baby into the world. And with that, Ferrera began the journey that is motherhood. Of course, having a child comes with plenty of challenges, not limited to feeling tired after long work days and sleepless nights.

Support from friends

After her baby was born, Ferrera said that she was lucky to be surrounded by so many amazing women to turn to for advice and support. In particular, she reached out to her co-stars from her comedy-drama film The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

Support from friends

Blake Lively, Alexis Bledel, and Amber Tamblyn are all mothers too, and Ferrera said that they were a “go-to” for her when she was pregnant. This type of personal support is what Ferrera was looking for in her Instagram post, too.

For moms everywhere

Of course, America Ferrera doesn’t just ask for support – she gives it too. In addition to being a rock for her friends, Ferrera often writes and speaks out in support of moms everywhere.

For moms everywhere

In November 2018 she shared a clip from her series Superstore with a caption dedicated to hard working mothers. The post discussed her character, Amy, who was forced to go back to work just two days after giving birth. To women like that, Fererra said, “I see you, I worship you, you are everything.”

Sharing with the world

The trials and tribulations of motherhood are often hidden from social media and television, where people can choose to show only the happiest moments. America Ferrera and other celebrities are starting to share the struggles and realities of motherhood, too.

Sharing with the world

Being a mother is wonderful, but it can also be challenging. By sharing the less than glorious moments, they give mothers everywhere someone to relate to, making them feel less alone when they are having a tough time.

An honest portrayal

The portrayal of America Ferrera’s character on Superstore has been praised by mothers everywhere. The realities of life postpartum aren’t always pretty, and many series and movies shy away from sharing the truth.

An honest portrayal

Many mothers feel that the character of Amy finally gives them a realistic new mother to relate to on television. As evidenced by the many helpful messages that Ferrera received when she asked for support, she has built a community of mothers helping each other through her openness and honest portrayal of motherhood.
